Magary Lord - Samba music from Brazil

Over last summer, I met a very very talented group of musicans and performers called 'Brazil! Brazil', managed by the amazing Toby Gough. They performed over the whole weekend at The Big Tent Festival

Magary has his own album 'Magary Black Semba' - this is what is said on the official Brazil! Brazil! page:

"After 5 years, Magary his debut album titled "Black Semba" and the hit single "Caxaxi". Since then, his work has spread like wild fire throughout Brazil performing in squares Tereza Batista, Pedro Archangel, Pelourinho and Cultural FIAC-International Arts Festival Cênicas/Bahia- 2008, and international music festivals. Magary's musical prowess is growing every day, gaining critical acclaim by international artists, tourists and cultural critics alike, who surrender the grace and beauty of his work, becoming die-hard fans."

When chatting to Magary, he explained that his music is is inspired through life, through experimenting with different rhythms a fusion of rhythm and ideas together...

We braved the snow...but not for too long!

Its a shame the way things worked out, we had hoped to get round to the beautiful old Water Mill, that is now a museum - would have made beautiful photos. But it was just too cold to ask anyone dressed in wedding attire to walk along to the mill, and stop for photos! So we found some nice spots in the grounds to capture the moment.

We had chatted, Paz & I about maybe getting some photos at the nearby Dalgarven MIll. However, on the actually day of the Wedding - it was obvious that it was just too cold to get the Wedding party out in wintry snow showers. But it seemed a shame to miss the fantastic chance to get some photos of the Mill. So I left the girls getting their beauty treatments, and nipped round down the snowy path.

Paz & Stephen's Wedding Day

The morning:
Well, as you know from the previous post, Scotland had been hit by lots of snowy wintery weather last week - worse than normal for this time of year! So, arriving a day early gave me the chance to meet Paz, Stephen & family. They instantly made me feel at home, and welcomed me into their family, and the cottage that they had hired at Dalgarven House.

The morning of the Wedding I was introduced to a little furry character, a teddy - the first gift that Stephen had bought Paz - the teddy was dressed in her own little Wedding Dress - too cute!

We started the wedding day with breakfast in the Hotel, it was snowing when we walked in - and boy was it cold!

and then it was off for hair and make-up.... girly fun!

The Winter Wedding

The plans were made, the date and venue set - but nobody told the snow to stay away!
The day of Paz & Stephen's Wedding fast approached, and as the day got closer things were getting more and more wintry - especially in Fife were we live. A few days before the Wedding, it was looking very unlikely that I was going to be able to get across Scotland across the Central Belt, and into Ayrshire for the Wedding. News reports like this didn't help my confidence either:

So the day before the Wedding arrived, and the weather was just getting worse and worse! And I just had to get to this Wedding. As luck would have it, my good friend Iain from Thame Freight (in Oxfordshire) was dropping off some office chairs at the Museum in Perth, next on his route, was Glasgow and the Saltcoats - virtually passing door to door! An amazing co-incidence, and an opportunity not to be lost! So within 10 minutes, I had my bags packed, cameras and gear all ready and was on the road!

The roads looked really snowy as we set out on the road

and things got whiter!!

the sun set, as we travelled down the motorway.

But the roads were getting clearer the further west we got.

We made it to the edge of the snow storm, and to see blue sky was beautiful and amazing. It had felt like it had been days since we had seen it! I loved the contrast here between the greys and snow at the edge of the storm and the beauty of the skies and sunset:

and seeing the sun on the mountains - it was breath takingly beautiful!

and so with the sun set, and Glasgow behind us, we made it to Dalgavern House Hotel. Thank you SO much Iain!!!

So with the wintry drive behind me, I set off to spend some time with the Bride & Groom and some other Wedding guests - who had travelled over from Ireland earlier that day.

Perth Light

Perth Light Night

We ate our tea, wrapped the kids in loads of layers, and set off to Perth to enjoy the 'Light Night".

Yes, that dragon is holding a severed arm, whose I don't know! Things started looking over so magical and Christmassy when it started to snow!

As we set off towards the riverbank to go get a place to watch the fireworks - our eldest son managed to wonder off and get lost in the crowd - a scary moment - involving me shouting his name at the top of my voice, and going to the 'lost child' centre (building below left), and liaising with the staff on duty and the police. I think it was a 20 min saga - and I was ever so relieved to see him - and he I . Below on the left he retells his story to us about what happened to him.

Once that was all ok, we went hand in hand to go watch the fire works!!!!! But we will be having more chats about what to do if he does loose sight of Mummy & Daddy again!

its been a bit of a late night - amazing fireworks and scary moments - we are all glad to be back home now!

Dougie Maclean

We went of, a friend and I to Dunkeld Cathedral to see Dougie Maclean in concert with other talented musicians. It was a spectacular venue and a really great evening - full of fun, music and toe tapping!

Fernie Castle

At the end of the month, I was at Fernie Castle for Sofia & Martin's Wedding - it was a beautiful day - which was really given the time of year it was.

There was a talented crowd of Wedding Guests, who contributed during the day with custom made wedding jewelry. There was also some beautiful poetry, singing and music from other guests.

And to finish there was a spectacular display of sky latterns!

Autumn is drawing in - there are some lovely colours and sights about and I was off on Saturday taking pictures for the lovely Ann & Mick on their Wedding in rural Perthshire. A stunning setting for a beautiful wedding. It was a beautiful day, and we couldn't have had better weather!

I've had a busy summer - with my three young kids keeping me on my toes - so, over the next few weeks, I'll be updating my blog to let you all see what I've been doing - had some great photo assignements - the highlight for me was getting invovled with the Big Tent Festival in Falkland, Fife and sunsquently, going along to the Edinburgh Festival, to take photos of this AMAZING internationally renound group called Brazil! Brazil! So watch this space for some eye popping pics of their amazing act!

In celebration of the Cateran Trail

I was commissioned to go along to the 10th Anniversary of the Cateran Trail, at the Bridge of Cally. A beautiful location - here are some ramblers that have just hiked from Bairgowrie.

We were joined by a film crew, and presenter for The Hour Show on STV.

They were doing a shoot on the Cateran Trail and testing out the latest GPS handsets.

Then it was back to the Bridge of Cally Hotel for a well earned break and a bite to eat! Wasn't quite the weather for a BBQ - with the wind playing havoc with the filming!

these were taken yesterday - I was along with my eldest son's nursery class taking photographs for their nativity play - and I spotted these beautiful roses frozen by the crispy icy weather.

Scone Palace

these were taken at Scone Palace - it was a really cold day, I had been visiting with my family and friends, and began a (what would now appear to be rather ambitious in hindsight) tour of the Palace - quite excited as I hadn't done the tour before - was looking forward to seeing around! Well, my two year old had other ideas! He found it too much - so I ended up with my camera, my two children and my Mum in tow, trecking about the grounds on this very cold winters day, with camera in hand! The kids had great fun running about the grounds and watching the peacocks!
